OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST LEHS JUNIOR ROTC

Once again, we are putting this well deserved group’s request out here.  Please see the attached letter below submitted by one of our classmates and take this opportunity to consider making a personal donation to this worthy cause.  No donation is too small.  These “kids” work really hard to compete and more often than not win their drill competitions.  If you’ve ever seen them perform, they are amazing.  ROTC was very instrumental in making our tour of LEHS in conjunction with our 50th reunion a success under the direction of Sargeant Major Oswald.  SgtMaj Oswald is a very dedicated leader and LEHS is very fortunate to have him.  Many of the kids come from some very tough/poor homes and ROTC teaches them responsibility and respect, their grades improve and most go on to pursue a higher education after high school.  Any donation would be appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.

Veterans Day 2019

Veterans Day, celebrated each year on Nov. 11, is a chance to honor those who’ve served our country. Not to be confused with Memorial Day, when we remember those who’ve died in service, Veterans Day is all about acknowledging and thanking our military members, both past and present, for their courage and sacrifices. In addition to Bar B Qing with friends, Here are 12 ways you can make this holiday more meaningful.

Attend a Veterans Day Parade

One way to show support to veterans is by showing up at your local community Veterans Day parade.

Visit Memorials and Museums

Throughout the nation there are many memorials and museums commemorating the sacrifices, courage and history of our military men and women.

Send Care Packages

Show deployed troops your support by sending them care packages abroad.

Reach Out to Veterans In Your Family and Community

While thanking a vet is great, listening to them share their stories is even better.

Volunteer or Donate to Military Support Organizations

Volunteering for or donating to organizations that help veterans, active duty military and their families

Teach Your Grandchildren About the Military

Honoring the men and women who’ve served our country begins by teaching our kids about the military, including the history of our armed forces

Place Flags on Veterans’ Graves

Cemeteries may be spooky for some people, but for others, they’re an important reminder of the people we’ve lost

Read a Book About Military History

Learning about the past is an important way to understand the future.

Watch a Historical War Film

Movies can be entertaining and educational, making them a great way to learn about the history of our nation.

Have a Moment of Silence

For a century, it’s been tradition to take a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War I in 1918.

Pay the Tab for a Vet

You don’t have to wait for Veterans Day to do something meaningful for vets. Whenever you’re out to eat, pay attention to the customers around you. Is there a veteran in the same line or seated at a table nearby? Use the opportunity to pick up their tab. You can even do so anonymously.

Make Your Porch Light Green

For just a few dollars you can do something this Veterans Day to show your support to vets and all it takes is changing a bulb. By swapping out your regular porch light with a green lightbulb, you’re participating in a nationwide movement known as Greenlight a Vet, which lets veterans in your area know you acknowledge and honor their service and sacrifices.

They turned 70, and still looking Good!

16 ladies from the LEHS class of 1965 had a lovely lunch at the 1606 Restaurant inside the Beauport Hotel on Friday 6/15/18.  These ladies all turned 70 in either 2017 or 2018 and it was time to celebrate.  A good time was had by all!

The inscription on the cake decorated in red and gray with balloons and confetti read “Happy 70s Bulldogs.” Thank you to Sue and Helen G. who donated the fun cake.

Request for information

Bob Maleszyk sent the following request which he received from the LEHS guidance department.
I have been in contact with Matt Wilkins and have verified that this is not a scam.  It is to create a new Alumni directory book.  Matt asks that we post this on our class website.  This info is requested soon (7 days from yesterday).
Oh…. the cost of the book will probably be in excess of $300!  It will be useful to Alumni associations but not very useful to individuals (especially because of the cost).  This company is also sending out post cards and making calls to verify information.
I have already let people know via Facebook.
Bob

LEHS Awards Night — Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Our Class was once again able to give two $1,000 scholarships this year thanks to some generous donations this spring.  Thanks to Alan McGrath for volunteering to present our scholarships at the LEHS Award’s Night.  The Committee decided to give a scholarship to ROTC students since so many gave their time entertaining us and leading us touring the school the day after our 50th reunion on 9/12/15.
The two recipients of our scholarships are Marlene Rivera and Betsy Rodas Escobar.
Marlene ranks 23rd out of a class of 339 and is on the National Honor Society.  She plans to attend UMass Amherst where she will pursue pre-medical studies.  She attained the rank of Cadet Colonel while holding the billet of Cadet Commander.  She is a member of the Lynn English MCJROTC Lady Bulldogs Drill Team which has performed and earned many awards at local, city, state and national competitions.
Betsy ranks 70th out of the class and has been on the honor roll since the 10th grade.  She plans to attend Emmanuel College to pursue neuroscience.  She has been the lead coordinator for the LEHS American Red Cross Blood Drive for the past two years which has been a huge success.
In addition to their individual accomplishments, they each have a mile-long list of events they have volunteered for over the past years all the while putting in hundreds of hours in the ROTC program.  Marlene and Betsy have both worked very hard, and we wish them much success in their future endeavors!
Alan was most impressed with both young ladies shown in photos below with the famous “Bulldog”!

For future scholarships, we would be happy to consider any grandchildren of  classmates graduating from LEHS in good standing and going on to further their education after high school.  Please keep that in mind for next year if you have a graduating grandchild.
